Work
The proof is a product we built end to end
Instead of a page of logos, here's one project in depth — what it does, how it's engineered, and what that says about how we'd build yours.
A11y Audit — an accessibility compliance platform
A11y Audit (opens in new tab) crawls an organization's website, scans every page in a real browser, verifies its PDFs against the PDF/UA standard, guides a reviewer through the checks no tool can decide, and produces signed evidence of conformance with WCAG 2.2 Level AA — the standard behind the Section 508 and ADA Title II obligations public agencies face.
That surface is wider than it sounds. Automated checks can only reach about half of the Level A and AA success criteria; the rest need a person. The easy path is to record the untested half as passing. A11y Audit routes those criteria into a structured review and holds a real verdict against each one, which is the difference between a scan report and evidence that survives scrutiny.
It began as a small PDF checker and grew into a multi-tenant platform — crawling and scanning, remediation tracking, cryptographically signed attestations, separate roles and data boundaries per organization, and subscription billing. It runs on an ASP.NET Core and PostgreSQL backend with an Angular front end, packaged in containers for cloud infrastructure. HausCode designed and engineered all of it: the same design-and-build work we do for clients, on a product of our own.
Building our own product changes how we build yours. Every scope call, every trade-off, and every consequence of a shortcut landed on us. That's not something you learn from a spec someone else wrote.
What it does
One run, end to end
These aren't separate features sitting next to each other. Each stage hands the next one something it depends on, which is most of what made it hard.
Crawl
Start from a single URL and the platform walks the whole site, building an inventory of every page and document it finds — then runs again on a schedule.
Scan
Pages are tested in a headless browser, so what gets checked is the fully rendered page a visitor actually receives. PDFs go down a separate path and are verified against the PDF/UA standard.
Review
The criteria no engine can judge are queued for a person with a structured protocol behind them, rather than backfilled as passes nobody ever tested.
Remediate
Findings are ranked by impact against effort, assigned, and tracked to done. The platform repairs the PDF tagging it can on its own, and a re-scan shows exactly which checks changed state.
Attest
Conformance reports and cryptographically signed attestations that a third party can confirm independently — without an account, and without asking you.
What this means for your project
The habits that built A11y Audit are the ones we bring to client work.
Scope is decided, not discovered
A11y Audit grew a long way, but never by accident. Every capability started as a decision about who it was for and what it had to prove — the same question we start your project with.
We build what we have to live with
We deploy and manage what we build, so a shortcut comes back to us rather than to you. That's why the unglamorous parts — access control, audit trails, error handling — actually get done.
Room to grow without a rewrite
A11y Audit went from a single-purpose checker to a full platform on the same foundation. Software that can absorb whatever your business needs next is a choice made early, not a rescue later.
How it's engineered
The decisions that weren't optional
A compliance product is judged on the parts nobody demonstrates. These are the ones we couldn't get wrong.
Records that hold up later
Every action is logged permanently and tied to the evidence behind it, so who decided what, and why, is still answerable a year later.
Every organization kept separate
Many organizations use the same system, and each one's data is walled off from the others by default rather than by anyone remembering to do it.
Access taken seriously
Two-factor sign-in, the option to sign in with a Google or Microsoft account, and careful handling of credentials throughout.
Held to its own standard
Every report the platform produces is checked against the same accessibility standard it tests other people's documents against. An accessibility product whose own reports fail its own checker isn't finished.
